Press F9 on your keyboard, or right-click and select 'Update Fields'. Press Control + A (PC) or Cmd + A (Mac). Place your cursor in any of your footnotes. Select the footnote with the first reference to your source, and click 'Insert'Īs you edit and add to your document, these cross-referenced numbers will not automatically update, but you can refresh and update all your cross-references at once by:. From the 'Reference type' drop-down menu select 'Footnote' and from the 'Insert reference to' menu select Footnote number. From the References toolbar select 'Cross-reference'. Place your cursor after the 'above n' in your footnote. You will need to insert a cross reference: However, for 'above n' citations EndNote cannot detect the number of the footnote at which you previously cited the source. Note: In addition to using the Insert Citation button in the toolbar, you can also add a reference using the Insert > Citation option from the main menu.As you insert citations into your document, EndNote will convert your citations to 'ibid' or 'above n' as needed. If you decline, you can add a bibliography later using the Insert > Bibliography menu option. If this is the first citation you are inserting into this document, Manuscripts asks you if you would like to insert a bibliography section at the end of your document. If you have not specified a style, Manuscripts uses the default style defined in your template. Manuscripts inserts the citation at your cursor location, using the citation style you have specified. If your reference list is long, you can search for the reference you need using the search bar at the top of the pop-up. If you do not see any references, you need to import or re-import bibliography data from your reference manager. 
This brings up a list of all imported references. Open the citation tool by clicking the Insert Citation button on the toolbar.Place your cursor where you want your citation to appear.To insert a citation using Manuscripts’ built-in citation tool:
